All About Moms at Kappa House

Screams Queens presented an homage to Psycho last night in the episode Mommie Dearest. I had heard this episode hinted at in early interviews with Jamie Lee Curtis about the series. Her mother, Janet Leigh, is best known for her role as Marion Crane in the movie Psycho. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the movie, Marion is the character who dies in the shower. Tonight Jamie Lee was shown reenacting that scene in all of the promos leading up to this episode. Besides that, here’s everything else that happened in the episode.

The episode actually starts with The Dean insisting she didn’t promise to tell Grace about what happened to the bathtub baby. Grace accuses The Dean of not caring what happens at the campus until it stabs her in the heart. Maybe not the best phrasing during an outbreak of murders Gracie dear. Then we jump to the iconic shower scene. The Dean is way more elegant at taking her clothes off than me. Not that I’m going to tell you about how I get into the shower. Instead of getting stabbed she punches out The Red Devil and calls the police, except their 911 system totally sucks. We get a Devil/Dean smack down, that somehow also involves a Supreme Court Justice. It’s to insert a political discussion into the show, just took me a second to figure out.

The Chanels are investigating and Denise is back and living in the Kappa house. She makes some delicious looking mozzarella sticks, though the oil probably still has housekeeper face bits in it. Chanel #3 hires Denise to prove Zayday is the murderer and we learn that The Dean may have “hypothetically” been involved in the original death and couldn’t “hypothetically” help with the current investigation. She says “hypothetically” a lot. She does give Grace the name of the girl who died at the Kappa party all those years ago. It’s Sophia Doyle and totally not Grace’s mom, who is the person Grace thought it would be.

Denise tries to question the candle vlogger, who insists Zayday isn’t the killer because there’s no evidence. Except she then tells a story that Zayday told her about how she was mocked by this group of rich girls named The Peacocks and that she swore to get revenge against all snooty rich girls. Then Zayday appears and tells both Jennifer and Denise to stay away from her. The Red Devil kills Jennifer while she’s YouTubeing about candles. I wonder if he uploaded the video for her. That candle did sound delightful.

Denise tells The Chanels she hasn’t found anything, but it’s because she needs money to fund her investigation. Chanel and Chad have a date night planned and it sounds, yeah not great. Weird compliments night, yep that’s how I’d want to spend a week night. Jennifer gets turned into a candle statue, which is extra creepy. Pete and Grace investigate, Grace totally thinks she’s the baby, and they head to the psych ward again to question the lady who paints. They learn that Gigi is the Hag of Shady Lane and that she had twins, one boy and one girl. The Dean gives a press conference to announce the school is closing and to honor Jennifer. Chanel freaks out that her entire life is ruined and that she won’t be popular any more. She hired Scotland Yard detectives, well tricked them into coming to America, which is kinda the same thing I guess.

Grace confronts Gigi and says that she’ll take everything to her father. Gigi though totally denies everything. The entire conversation turns into Gigi telling Grace this belief that she’s a killer is totally just to keep her dad all to herself. The detectives inform Chanel that #5, whose real name is Libby Putney, really wants to kill her. They can’t find any evidence to prove Zayday or Grace was involved.Grace’s mom it turns out had a criminal record, so not Sophia, but apparently also not that hard to find information about her.

Grace and her dad talk about Gigi, and he reveals she came home with lamps and the ring. He didn’t even actually propose, he’s just playing along for sexy times. She decides her dad is involved in the murders and tells him to stay away from her and heads back to Kappa house. Chanel is waiting for her and reveals to her that she’s the daughter of Bethany Stevens, who was president of Kappa house when the baby died.

Denise gave herself a makeover, using #5’s clothes, and insists she has taken over Kappa house. Chanel informs her that’s not the case, except Denise tells her that she will scoop up Chad unless Chanel does exactly what she tells her. Grace learns Chanel really did tell her the truth, except Wes totally burned down their house himself. He might be a little bit, okay maybe a lot, crazy. Gigi reveals that Grace is failing out of school, she also suggests committing her which seems a little extreme. Grace and Chanel have coffee, where Chanel apologizes and we learn what her family life is like. Nick Jonas returns right at the end of the episode and reveals Gigi was the Chief Justice, and that he wants her gone from The Red Devil Murder Club.

Sorry these recaps are so long, but the episodes have so much going on in them it’s really hard to figure out what to cut out. There are only 4 episodes of the season left so that should get pretty crazy, especially with Nick Jonas back. Any thoughts on who the last Red Devil might be?
