Lullaby and Goodnight Mommy

I heard about the movie Goodnight Mommy after the trailer was released online and I heard that it was the creepiest trailer ever. I watched the trailer then and it definitely looked super creepy, so when I got the chance to watch the movie I jumped on it. My expectations for this movie were pretty high and I’m sad to say maybe they were a little too high.

First off I want to let you know that this movie is entirely in German with English subtitles. I either forgot about this or just missed it when I was reading up on the movie, I don’t mind movies with subtitles I just wasn’t expecting it. The movie opens with two young boys, they happen to be twins, playing in a cornfield. When they get back to the house they find their mother at home with her face entirely wrapped in bandages. The boys talk to her for a bit, but she refuses to speak to one of them or bring him anything to eat or drink. She also insists that the house be quiet because she needs to recover from her surgery. There is no explanation for why she had surgery or any reference to the boys apparently being alone the entire time she was at the hospital.

The movie gets pretty crazy with Lukas and Elias doubting that the woman in their home is their mother. They begin trying to hide from her and then plotting ways to torture her into revealing the location of their real mother. The boys do some insane stuff like gluing her mouth shut and tying her to a bed. Glue and tape show up a lot and honestly I have no idea how they got their hands on so much glue. There is technically a twist in this movie, but I guessed it way earlier than I should have, which made watching the movie a bit tedious in some aspects. The trailer made the movie seem way creepier than it actually was. Gross things do happen, but the worst stuff happens when the boys are torturing their mother for information near the end.

If you decide to watch the movie let me know when you guess the twist and what you thought about the movie as a whole. You can comment below or tweet at us, @thenerdygirlexp. You can also tweet at me, @kleffnotes, find me on my blog, kleffnotes.wordpresss.com, or on my kleffnotes YouTube channel.
