Sterling K. Brown’s acting star is definitely on the rise.
After his recent Emmy Award win for his portrayal of Christopher Darden in The People v OJ Simpson, Brown has been cast in the critically acclaimed and much talked about new NBC series This Is Us. He plays Randall, a successful business man who was adopted after he was abandoned at a fire station as a baby. Brown will bring emotion and depth to Randall as viewers get to know the character.
The first time I was introduced to Sterling K. Brown was when he played vampire hunter turned vampire on The CW’s Supernatural. Gordon believed he was doing what was right but his obsession to rid the world of vampires and supernatural evil turned dangerous.
Sterling played Roland Burton on Lifetime’s Army Wives, a character vastly different from Gordon, proving Brown’s versatility as an actor. Roland was a psychiatrist who maintained life at home for their family while wife Colonel Joan Burton served her country.
The role of Christopher Darden posed a challenge as this was more than a character, Darden was a real person involved in one of the most high profiled cases of the century. Makeup could give Brown the physical appearance of Darden but mannerisms and realistically playing this man required an acting skill that the talented Sterling K. Brown met, making him deserving of his Emmy win.
Now comes Randall. In just two aired episodes, viewers already know him to be a man of honor. He respects his wife, takes care of his family as well as worry about the health of the biological father who abandoned him. He’s a supportive brother to siblings Kate and Kevin.
Regardless of the role, Sterling K. Brown remains undaunted in delivering a commanding performance.
