@Scrimshawcomic #1 @ALTERNACOMICS Review from @kleffnotes ( @HordeMedia )

The ice caps have melted and the world has had to evolve. With wars and wall building, Japan has become the leading nation. While industry has grown, illegal operations have also managed to thrive through their use of the system. Working within the grey area between criminal activity and legal labor is the crew of The Runaway Horse, the main characters within the world of Scrimshaw.

Hans Tanaka, the leader of the crew, was born out of an arranged marriage between Norwegian and Japanese corporations and in his travels has brought together a diverse band of people to help run his ship. In Scrimshaw #1 we first see him with Saigo, a radiation manipulator and his personal valet/bodyguard. They are on the quest to find a purchase a hallucinogenic creature that resembles an octopus. While they rightfully win the auction being held at The Kabuki Kowboy they are attacked by Tanto Corporate goons. Will they make it out with their prize? Will The Runaway Horse manage to run away? You’ll have to check out Scrimshaw to find out!

The future presented by Scrimshaw is really interesting and I love the extensive world building and set up that is presented at the start of this issue. I also really enjoy the diverse assortment of characters working on The Runaway Horse. I didn’t talk about them all here, you’ll just have to read the comic to find out just how cool they are. Not only is there the main story, but this issue has a Captain’s Log that gives detailed backstories for the entire crew and gives blueprints of the ship. The art is reminiscent of anime and manga, with bright colors to draw you into the detailed images. I think this is going to be a great series and I definitely look forward to reading more!
