Fun Suggestions for a Nontraditional Christmas Eve from @kleffnotes

Today some people might be celebrating Christmas Eve and I thought I would share some fun suggestions that are holiday themed, but aren’t exactly typical holiday plans. With some inspiration drawn from a few of my favorite Christmas movies here are some things you can do today for a bit of nontraditional festive fun.

The first idea is making a trip to Denny’s. Not only is their Twitter account hilarious and worth supporting through pancake purchases, but this specific restaurant also appears in The Santa Clause. After Scott Calvin, Tim Allen’s character, burns Christmas Eve dinner, he takes his son to Denny’s so that they can at least eat something. This year I’m actually doing this with my siblings and my sister is in charge of ordering chocolate milk. Now if you haven’t seen The Santa Clause this will make absolutely no sense, but in the movie the son tries to get chocolate milk and is informed they are out. Every year I watch this movie and every year I get very angry at Judy the waitress for not making the kid chocolate milk. They totally have to have chocolate syrup and white milk in that Denny’s.

Your second nontraditional suggestion is make some partially maimed gingerbread cookies. This one is inspired by The Carmilla Christmas special and should be delicious. In the special Laura, Carmilla, LaFontaine, and Perry have escaped a murderous mob and are hiding out in what appears to be an empty diner/bakery. Christmas cookies and sweets start appearing, but Carmilla notices that the gingerbread men all look a bit worse for wear. Each of them has injuries and is decorated as though they have been fighting off a monster. This one is just fun because it means you can break your cookies and add ridiculous amounts of red icing. Just do whatever decorating you like and enjoy some broken cookie bits.

The last suggestion is to binge on Chinese food. If you have a buffet nearby I suggest you head there for a variety of options or if you prefer to stay comfy and cozy in your pajamas you can order in. This one is a bit inspired by my actual family tradition and also by the movie A Christmas Story. After the ham is eaten by Bumpus hounds Ralphie and his family wind up going out for Chinese food on Christmas Day, but in my family we always get Chinese food on Christmas Eve. We used to get KFC, but when I announced I wanted to be a vegetarian we altered our plans a little bit.

I hope you enjoy the suggestions and even if you don’t wind up doing any of them I hope you are having a wonderful and relaxing day.
