The first ever ClexaCon London will be happening in November of this year and in connection to that I had the opportunity to chat with one of their guests, Briana Venskus. We discuss her roles on Supergirl, Agents of SHIELD, The Walking Dead, and so much more. Her responses are delightful and if you are considering attending or already plan to attend ClexaCon London this interview will get you even more pumped.
Could you tell our readers a little about yourself?
Hi I’m Briana, I like long walks on the beach and candle lit dinners….. JUST KIDDING, I mean those are fine and all, but there’s more to me than that. I’m just a girl from North Carolina who gets to play pretend for a living! I’ve been living in LA for about 14 years now!
What inspired you to pursue a career in acting?
I was an only child growing up so I spent a lot of time watching movies as a kid and running around on my own imaging all sorts of crazy scenarios. I knew I wanted to be an actor when I saw Robin Williams in Hook!
You play Agent Vasquez in Supergirl, how would you describe your character?
Agent Vasques is the ol’ work horse of the DEO. She just gets the job done, and every now and then throws in a little sass.
What are some of your favorite on set memories?
We work insane hours in TV, we were all a little delirious, so 99.9% of our days were spent using snap chat filters and laughing. The show is also filled with EXCEPTIONAL singers, so we break into musical numbers at any given moment.
You’ve also appeared on another superhero connection show, Agents of S.H,I.E.L.D, what is your character like on that show?
Piper on SHIELD is a real hoot. They made her the snarkiest badass. She can throw shade and a grenade all in one line.
How does working on a Marvel series differ from a DC series?
Marvel I’ve noticed is a little more tapped into the humor, the writing in both their TV and Movies is so whip smart. DC definitely focuses a lot on the long game and developing the emotional feel of the characters.
Now since we’re on the topic of superheroes, do you have a favorite?
My fave super hero is my mom! Haha! Hmmmm…..I’d have to go with…Deadpool. For the sass.
Shifting gears from heroes to horror, how would you describe your character Beatrice on The Walking Dead?
Oh boy, Beatrice is a very broken, fierce woman living in the zombie apocalypse. She’s had everything stripped from her and continues to fight for virtually nothing. So to say she’s on the struggle bus would be an understatement.
What is it like filming on that show?
Filming that show is like being 8 years old again and running around in the woods playing cowboys and Indians. Except its real, and everyone is trying to eat or kill you.
Before The Walking Dead were you a horror or zombie fan?
I was a HUGE horror fan, I am obsessed with Rob Zombie as an artist and Director. Also old school horror and mind twisters from Hitchcock are GOLD!
You’ll be at ClexaCon London this year, what are you most looking forward to at the convention?
Well, first off I’m THRILLED to be in London. I love the city. I love the people. Most excited to meet people and share a pint!
As someone who has also been at ClexaCon in Las Vegas, what was that experience like for you and what do you anticipate being different at the London venue?
Clexacon Vegas was a WHIRLWIND! I had so much fun. I think London will be a little more intimate, more one on one, so if you’re looking for a more personalized experience get your butt to London.
Any fun London plans outside of the convention?
Yes! Riding motorcycles, and drinking, and walking around, and seeing friends! Hopefully I’ll catch a show or two!
Do you have any upcoming projects you can share?
I’ll be on the show ‘Good Trouble’ which is the spin off of ‘The Fosters’ that should be airing in 2019, and I am also returning to Agents of SHIELD!
Where can our readers find you online?
