August 20 is James Marsters’ birthday.
Marsters is best known to television audiences for his portrayal of platinum blonde vampire William “Spike” The Bloody. First appearing in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2 Episode 3 “School Hard,” Spike started as an enemy of the slayer. However after The Initiative put a chip in his head prevented him from harming humans, Spike became a reluctant member of the Scoobies. He eventually developed romantic feelings for Buffy. Spike finished his Buffy run as a hero, sacrificing his life to save the world from The First and its minions The Turok-Han.
But that wasn’t the end of Spike. He returned as a ghost seeking to become corporeal again in the fifth and final season of Buffy’s spin-off Angel. Spike’s rivalry with Angel continued as now there were two vampires with a soul. But which of the two vampire Champions was the Shanshu referring…who would play the pivotal role in the Apocalypse and be rewarded with the restoration of his humanity?
As it turned out both Angel and Spike faced the Apocalypse and battled evil law firm Wolfram and Hart in the series finale of Angel “Not Fade Away.”
James Marsters was reunited with former Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel cast mate Charisma Carpenter when the two appeared in the Supernatural Season 7 episode “Shut Up, Dr. Phil.” They played warring married couple Don and Maggie Stark.
So on this your birthday James, wishing you continue success and happiness in your career and life.
