The Bi Line: Ziggy, Stardust and Me Book Review from @kleffnotes ( @PenguinTeen @JBJUSTBE )

This month I had the opportunity to read the new release, Ziggy, Stardust and Me, and wanted to devote this week’s The Bi Line to this remarkable teen read. Set in 1973, the story follows sixteen-year-old Jonathan Collins, who feels completely alone. Bullied, anxious, and asthmatic, the teenager finds a safe haven in his own imagination where he can find guidance through his hero, David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, and dead relatives, including his mother. Within this world of his creation he can be anyone and anything, even “normal.” As a boy who likes other boys, Jonathan is going through treatments to “help him become normal,” but someone comes into his life that changes everything. Web, a boy with secrets of his own, provides a sort of escape that Jonathan never expected and through this he may finally be able to find acceptance. The Bi Line: Telling Tales in the Dark from @kleffnotes

I’ve been playing a little bit of television catch up now that my schedule is a little bit more flexible. Recently I finally watched Tales of the City, the recent limited series on Netflix, and the new CW show, In The Dark. While that second show isn’t focused on a queer character, her best friend identifies as a lesbian and I wanted to delve into her role. This article is a bit of a catch all since these shows aren’t exactly connected to each other, but that’s sometimes how my watching catch up goes. Best Women’s Erotica of the Year Volume 5 Book Review from @kleffnotes

This year’s Cleis Anthology, Best Women’s Erotica of the Year Volume 5, is noted as the most outrageous one to date. For this new addition to the series authors were asked to submit their most “wild and over-the-top” stories. Some stories are tremendous out there in topic, but there are different takes and presentations of these curious stories that span the erotica genre. The final work is touted as a “ripped-from-real-life” tale that focuses on the specific subculture of aerialists. If you are looking for a read that will bring the heat and also keep you on your toes with each and every curious tale. Boy Untitled EP and Poetry Book Review from @kleffnotes

Mark Tennyson recently released his EP Boy Untitled, which is a five part musical and visual epic that has an additional creative companion work. This EP connects with a collection of poetry titled, A Wander’s Love Letter to the Universe. The five songs on the album connect with the five parts of the poetry book, which creates a beautifully vivid world for the reader and listener. There is a sixth song on the EP, but it is a live version of an earlier song in the list. While the poetry is non-linear the works it contains and the music it connects to were all inspired by a period of transition and growth in Tennyson’s life. From marriage to the loss of his father, he found himself growing and changing a great deal, which led him to find his creative impetus for this project. The Bi Line: This Comic Has Everything! from @kleffnotes

During Pride Month I went on a hunt to find books and movies that would help me to grow my understanding of different people within the LGBTQ+ community. Now I will admit I was trying to save a bit of money so I stuck to streaming services and library related apps. In my quest for knowledge I watched all of the series Gaycation, the documentary Growing Up Coy, and a few other assorted shows and movies that were recommended in various Pride watch lists. While I was watching I also did a bit of a deep dive into comics and books on the Hoopla app, this app shares digital books you can read through an account connected to your library card and many libraries use this program. During this hunt I found Gender Queer, a touching memoir that I mentioned on Twitter immediately after I finished it, and I also found the comic I want to focus on today, Ask Me About Polyamory. Insomnia Web Series Review from @kleffnotes

The darkly comedic web series Insomnia drops the final episode of the limited series today and to get you ready for the final episodes I wanted to share my thoughts on the show so far. Set in New York City, Insomnia follows bisexual, Indian American writer Nikhil Sharma as he tries to figure out his life. Shown through single camera, the story follows Nikhil in his secret work as a male escort where he is confronted by issues of race, sexuality, loneliness, and just general lack of sleep. The series was inspired by a brief real life encounter when creator and star of the show, Vishaal Reddy, was asked by someone in NYC if he had ever considered being an escort. The Bi Line: Shadowburg ( @stupidlullabies )from @kleffnotes

This is another quick throwback to Artist Alley at ClexaCon, which probably shows how much I either spent in money or spent in the area. On Sunday I wandered around and while that was a day I tried to not spend too much, I did make sure to pick up cards and other info cards to give myself some time to check out artists in more detail. One of the items I picked up was all about something called Shadowburg. I will admit I did think this was a comic at first glance, but it turns out this is actually an online game.
