Watching The Bird Men

The Bird Men, not to be confused with Birdman (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), is a fun, and surprisingly short, movie that will be out on dvd today. I was shocked to learn that the movie I watched was originally released in 2014 under the title The Birder. Even though this movie is older than I originally thought I still thought I would share my thoughts with you.

Ron Spencer, an avid bird watcher since his youth, is looking forward to a summer of birding with his equally enthusiastic bird watching daughter, Samantha. When the two arrive at the local park Ron expects to be given the position of Head Ornithologist, but it winds up being given to a younger, more tech savvy birding podcaster named Floyd. Ron snaps and starts looking for some way to get the position he feels was taken from him. While living in the high school, he got kicked out of his house, he becomes friends with the new janitor, Ben. All sorts of ridiculous things happen, including a worm poop related accidental arson, as Ben and Ron try and take out Floyd.

The movie is only 85 minutes long and it’s a fun little watch. I actually used to watch the tv show Ed and the reason I decided to watch this movie was because Tom Cavanagh, who played Ed, was front and center on the cover as Ron. He was wonderful in the movie, his mustache was remarkable in and of itself. I really enjoyed the scenes between him and Cassidy Renee, Samantha. Since it is such a short movie I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for something lighthearted and fun to brighten up your day.
