The Booklovers’ Guide to Wine Book Review from @kleffnotes

Patrick Alexander has a deep love of wine that extends back even into his childhood. Under the very conscious supervision of his father he was allowed to have wine, mixed with water in a very European way, with dinner beginning at the age of five. Now this love has grown and inspired the remarkably informative The Booklovers’ Guide to Wine: An Introduction to the History, Mysteries and Literary Pleasures of Drinking Wine

I do want to begin by saying that I came into this book with a bit of a misconception. I had been under the impression this work would be more connected to literature than it wound up being, but I still found myself enjoying this book. Alexander expertly lays out all of the details you could ever want to know about wine and how to best enjoy it. He begins by discussing types of wines and the best way to test and rate them, with clear definitions of all the terminology associated with the process. He then breaks down the history of wine from when it first appeared historically and down into the nitty gritty of how wine has been made over time. He even examines the various ways that wine is created and each of the different wines made in different countries.

The Booklovers’ Guide to Wine is just so full of detail that if you have ever wanted to know anything about the subject you should pick this book up immediately. For those who are already well versed in wine Alexander provides so much compiled information that you would still learn something from him. There are also breakdowns for what to pair with wine, how to order wine, and suggestions for how to try as much as you can. Alexander also gives his list of the top 40 wines that you absolutely need to try before you die. If you love wine you should pick up a copy of The Booklovers’ Guide to Wine on sale now.
