The first ever ClexaCon London took place on November 3rd and 4th and I had the chance to chat with the directors about how the event went. Before the event happened I had chatted with the team about their plans and the work that goes into a convention and in this follow-up interview I focused on their London experience. Thank you to the ClexaCon Directorial Team for taking the time to answer my questions.
I know I’ve asked you this before, but in case folks haven’t checked out my previous interview, could you briefly interview the team?
ClexaCon is run by Holly Winebarger, Ashley Arnold, Danielle Jablonski and Heidi Leung along with a dedicated team of volunteers who work year-round to ensure incredible events.
You just tied up ClexaCon London, what was hosting the convention in a new location like?
It was intense! 🙂 There are definitely a whole new set of challenges when doing an event in a new location but it was fantastic to be able to bring ClexaCon to fans in the UK and to fans from about 25 other countries who came to London to be part of it!
How did the convention perform? Did it exceed your expectations?
ClexaCon London went really well! We designed the event to be a smaller more intimate experience and we capped attendance at 750. We felt like we were able to create the atmosphere we originally set out to create and have received a lot of great feedback from attendees.
What were some of the highlights for the team?
I think being in London and getting to explore a new city was a lot of fun for our team. The bus tour and the Friday night movie screenings were definitely highlights and we had a lot of great panels and discussions. Our LGBTQ Actresses panel is always a big hit and our talented guests didn’t disappoint.
We also had the chance to launch our sister company DASH Event Photography which was great. There’s now an option to work with an LGBTQ-owned photography company for your convention or event (because who doesn’t like a plug 😉
Are there any plans to add elements from London to Vegas? (I primarily ask because I saw you did a Trivia Night and I am a huge fan of Trivia Nights)
At every event we learn new things that we are able to incorporate into future events and there were lots of things we learned that we’ll bring back from London. The trivia event was fun and if we do it again we’ll know to expect more than 10 teams!
I did an article focused on the recent ClexaCon London videos posted in the official YouTube channel, will there be any more London videos added?
There will be! Our team went off to explore some sites, and after an event we all need to recover. Give us a few weeks and more videos will be posted.
Did any of the team get to experience the city of London or were you all pretty tied to the venue?
We were able to explore after the event. Most of our team arrived on Thursday and we had to jump into setup but we had a couple of days after to explore and enjoy London. Most of us even got to check out the Harry Potter Studio Tour which was awesome.
As a bit of a goofy question, did the Vegas chairs make the trip to London for the panels or was that just a coincidence?
Haha, no. The chairs were not the same as our Las Vegas chairs. It turns out renting chairs in London is really hard! We ended up finding these ones the day before the event. We’d love to have taken our Las Vegas chairs over but we can only carry so much 🙂
