The Hadley Academy for the Improbably Gifted Book Review from @kleffnotes

If you love X-Men or Harry Potter, then the upcoming release The Hadley Academy for the Improbably Gifted is something that you will love. Conor Grennan brings to life a world of dark and mysterious forces through his main character Jack Carlson. Never expecting that some sort of powers lie deep inside him, Jack struggles to understand what is happening to him as he finds himself suddenly at The Hadley Academy.

Jack has been dreading a class presentation, but he suddenly finds himself coping with a different stress when he finds himself transported to the Hadley Academy. This secret institution tracks and trains teenagers who have unlikely gifts in order to protect the world from secret killers. While Jack might not understand what he is doing at the academy, he isn’t the only one. Jack seems to fit a prophesy that declares he will be the one to end the Reaper War, but he doesn’t understand how. With dark forces rising had and his teammates will have to work through their own struggles and doubts in order to develop and stop the encroaching evil. This story emphasizes how everyone has their own powers deep inside, even if they might be doubting themselves.

Grennan’s story takes the idea of powers and connects it very strongly to the world at large. Jack and his team may be young, but they are constantly in dangerous situations where people could die. There are infected people who are full of darkness, literal shutdowns to keep people safe, and so much danger is still happening as they try and figure out how they can stop the dangerous powers spreading throughout the world. The story feels like an action movie that is constantly hitting you with action and danger. This is such a fun read and if you enjoy Young Adult action and adventure you need to check this book out. Jack and his team show a great deal of diversity and how everyone can bring something different to a situation that can help them. There are also a number of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the last page. If you are looking for an enjoyable and adventurous read this is the book for you. You can get The Hadley Academy for the Improbably Gifted in October.

  1. Great review. I loved this book as a pre-reader (snagged an early copy!). Perfect for middle-grade and YA sci-fi readers. I found lots of fun info at the site, including a free preview download and character trading cards. So cool!
