Oh Kevin, You Lovable Idiot: A Review of @Ghostbusters from @kleffnotes

I know what you might be thinking, Katherine why are you writing this review, aren’t you afraid the trolls will attack you? And no lie, I am not looking forward to the potential flack that this review could bring me, but I’m going to be brave and say I ain’t afraid of no trolls. Even though I am because seriously scary folks lurk on the internet, but I’m embracing my own kick butt lady power and saying I liked the new Ghostbusters movie. Yes, I liked it. Before you get angry, yes, I have seen the original movies and yes, more than once. I even watch the first one on repeat at the video store where I currently work when the mood strikes me. I have been looking forward to seeing this reboot because I like Paul Feig movies and I think all the women involved in this production are really funny. After watching it I can say that I definitely wasn’t disappointed. Continue reading “Oh Kevin, You Lovable Idiot: A Review of @Ghostbusters from @kleffnotes”

Have You Gone To The Forest? A DVD Release Review from @kleffnotes

Last night I had a chance to watch The Forest starring Natalie Dormer. I considered seeing this movie in theaters, but decided to wait for the dvd release. I’m kind of picky about which horror movies I see in theaters, I also don’t always get a chance to catch movies at my local theater. The Forest comes out on dvd and blu-ray this Tuesday so I thought I would give it a shot in the comfort of my own home, which was definitely a better plan than seeing it in the theater. Fangirl Freakouts: @BatmanvSuperman Review from @kleffnotes

I finally got to see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and it dawned on me that you might want to see some sort of review. Yep, that’s a terrible pun, but now everything after it will just seem that much more awesome by comparison. My latest Fangirl Freakouts video is all about the movie and is mostly spoiler free. I mention one spoiler, but there’s warning I promise. Continue reading “Fangirl Freakouts: @BatmanvSuperman Review from @kleffnotes”

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: #SwordofDestiny Review via @quietlikeastorm

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a classic film that revolutionized martial arts action films. It was also the first ever Mandarin language film to be nominated for an Oscar. That is some big shoes to fill when the sequel, Sword of Destiny, was finally released on Netflix this past February. Was it able to match up? (Some spoilers)

Catching Up on Oscar Winning Movies: A Review of @RoomTheMovie from @kleffnotes

You would think that a woman who works at a video store would be caught up on the things that get nominated for Academy Awards, right? Well, that is definitely not the case. Actually it’s never the case. I don’t live in a big city, which often means our one movie theater gets passed over for productions that are considered more independent or artsy. We get the big blockbusters yes, but a number of movies that were nominated we either didn’t get at all or only got for a week during the last year. We didn’t get Room at all, but it showed up at the video store right after the Oscars and I jumped on the chance to watch it. So, here’s my belated review of the movie that Brie Larson won her Oscar for Best Actress for. Continue reading “Catching Up on Oscar Winning Movies: A Review of @RoomTheMovie from @kleffnotes”

Black Mass Actor Reactions from @kleffnotes

Black Mass comes out on dvd and blu-ray this Tuesday and I had planned to do a review of the movie for today, but just couldn’t figure out how to write it. I tried, but every attempt just didn’t make sense. The movie is based on the true life events surrounding Whitey Bulger, who is considered the most infamous criminal in the history of South Boston. I thought that instead of trying to recap the movie I would instead talk about the reactions I had to a number of actors within the movie, some of whom I had no clue were even in it.
