When this episode opened I thought it was a cold day in Hell, but nope it was just a Quincannon family vacation in Vail. Odin skipped out and his family fell to their deaths, but these deaths drove him into madness. His family was shipped to him and he ripped open the boxes and compared their insides to the insides of a cow. When he saw no difference he called the preacher, Jesse’s father, and told him that there was no soul within either one and insisted that he go into his church and denounce God right away. This week’s episode of Preacher opened with a return to Ratwater, you know that place in 1881 with all the dead bodies and the lone cowboy. He’s made the long journey for some sort of medication, but while he wants to leave as soon as possible, the pharmacist insists he needs to wait until morning. The opening of last night’s Preacher was something straight out of a horror movie. An empty bus roving the streets, a man passed out on the sidewalk, a mascot wandering around, streetlights popping, and a girl fleeing for her life. Oh yeah and it’s not just one girl, we see there are even more trying to escape from armed men. But, hey not everything is as it appears. This week’s Preacher surprisingly didn’t start off with Jesse at the forefront. Instead we got to see what Tulip is up to on her mission for the mysterious Danni. They are sitting on a park bench in Houston and Dannie is describing how Tulip could killer her husband, apparently she finds him disgusting, but Tulip refuses. She hands over the map and in exchange she gets an address and we get a flashback of Tulip in a blue dress. Before I continue with the recap I will say that there are some moments of gun violence within the episode. If you don’t feel comfortable reading about them at this time I totally understand. This week brought us a brand new episode of Preacher after the original premiere of the pilot two weeks ago. We started back in the year 1881 with settlers making their way through the dessert wilderness. A man on a horse sets out on his journey and meets a family making their way by wagon. After listening to a bit of a rant about the evils of civilization around the campfire we are shown in the cold light of morning a tree full of hanging corpses. We are brought into focus on one that has been scalped. We then are pulled back to see a sign marked The Town of Ratwater as the man on a horse rides by. Preacher premiered on AMC last night at 10 pm and ran for an hour and a half and boy was that hour and a half crammed full of some intense events and character introductions. This might have been one of the bloodiest pilots I’ve ever seen, which has me very excited to check out the rest of the season.
