When the 2020 Daytime Emmy Nominations were announced on Thursday, May 21, 2020, General Hospital received a total of 23 nominations.

In this article, our writer Stacy Miller takes a look at Outstanding Lead Actress Nominees Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) and Maura West (Ava Jerome).

Two General Hospital powerhouse performers have been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress category: Finola Hughes and Maura West.

Hughes plays Anna Devane, an ex-WSB agent and former police commissioner. Anna was introduced on General Hospital in 1985. Finola Hughes also played Alex, Anna identical twin sister. A current storyline had Anna questioning whether Alex and not she was Peter’s actual mother. In fact, the scene Hughes submitted for Emmy consideration is one in which she appears as both Alex and Anna.

This is Finola Hughes’ eighth Daytime Emmy nomination. She won the Outstanding Lead Actress award in 1991. In addition to being recognized for her work on General Hospital, she received a previous Outstanding Lead Actress nomination from when she worked on All My Children.

As Ava Jerome, Maura West always delivers when it comes to dramatic performances. Ava is a woman not without her share of mistakes, one of which cost the life of her daughter at the hands of sociopath serial killer Ryan Chamberlain. The scene where Ava confronts Ryan with a gun is the one West submitted for her reel:

Maura West has been nominated thirteen times, winning the Daytime Emmy in 2007, 2010 and 2015.

Wishing Finola and Maura congratulations on their nominations!

The 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards air Friday, June 26, 2020 at 8/7c on CBS.
