As a member of the press and someone who has covered ClexaCon previously, and even relatively recently, I feel I must discuss some of my thoughts about the current issues, as well as some previous issues, I am having with the convention. While I could present my thoughts through Twitter, as I have this platform I felt an article would better suit my needs. The Nerdy Girl Express is also where I have shared this coverage and including this article would allow for direct reference on the site. ClexaCon is teaming up with SAG-AFTRA, YouTube Space L.A., Outfest, and UNLV to bring something new to their convention. This is the third consecutive year of the convention and the second year it will be held at the Tropicana and for this third year the focus is on education and helping new creators find their way. With a diverse group of over 4,000 attendees from more than 40 countries last year, this year’s ClexaCon is looking to make the one of kind experience even more unique. It’s going to be a super weekend at the upcoming Wizard World Comic Con in Portland.
Recently there has been a great deal of discussion online, primarily on Twitter, concerning representation in media specific conventions and how this representation impacts these queer spaces. While no specific convention has been named it has become fairly apparent from comments and from inferencing that the convention in question is ClexaCon. A number of topics have been presented including how inclusive the convention truly is based on how primarily white, cis, and straight their featured guests appear to be. I will note there are some women of color on the featured guest list as well as some out women, though I will admit this number is small. It’s going to be sort of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel reunion in Portland with several of the stars from the cult classic television shows attending an upcoming Wizard World Comic Con in February, 2019.

After releasing some of their larger panels, ClexaCon posted a number of videos of their smaller panels from ClexaCon London. I took a bit of time to check out the new additions and wanted to share a bit about them with those who either couldn’t attend the convention or might have missed out on some of these panels. While the larger panels are always great, smaller panels help to focus more on specific issues and populations within the community that don’t always get discussed in the bigger rooms. The first ever ClexaCon London took place on November 3rd and 4th and I had the chance to chat with the directors about how the event went. Before the event happened I had chatted with the team about their plans and the work that goes into a convention and in this follow-up interview I focused on their London experience. Thank you to the ClexaCon Directorial Team for taking the time to answer my questions. Continue reading “@ClexaCon Directorial Team #ClexaCon London Follow-Up Interview from @kleffnotes”
This past weekend ClexaCon took over London for the first time with the inaugural ClexaCon London on November 3rd and 4th. As a lover of ClexaCon, I would have loved to go to this convention, but sadly no such luck. I couldn’t make the weekend work with my schedule, but I was ecstatic to find that I hadn’t missed out on all of the action thanks to the ClexaCon YouTube channel. If you are like me and a London ClexaCan’t, here are some of the amazing things you can experience from wherever you are. Continue reading “Missed @ClexaCon London?
