The Bi Line: Chasing Amy Retro Watch from @kleffnotes

Somehow over the course of my life I had never actually watched Chasing Amy. This becomes a bit more surprising once I point out that I have watched a number of Kevin Smith movies and I even used to watch the show he had on AMC. For date nights, since we are long distance, Krista and I sometimes pick out shows or movies to watch simultaneously and when she learned I’d never seen Chasing Amy she thought we definitely needed to add it to the list. The Bi Line: Sex Education and You from @kleffnotes

The title of this article totally sounds like a self help book or some sort of sexual memoir. It really isn’t, it’s actually all about Netflix television shows because I was pleasantly surprised by queer storylines recently while doing some binging. Now I’m not saying all of this plots were very big or picture perfect, but I still found myself enjoying them. Continue reading “The Bi Line: Sex Education and You from @kleffnotes”

Queer Representation and Queer Spaces from @kleffnotes

Recently there has been a great deal of discussion online, primarily on Twitter, concerning representation in media specific conventions and how this representation impacts these queer spaces. While no specific convention has been named it has become fairly apparent from comments and from inferencing that the convention in question is ClexaCon. A number of topics have been presented including how inclusive the convention truly is based on how primarily white, cis, and straight their featured guests appear to be. I will note there are some women of color on the featured guest list as well as some out women, though I will admit this number is small. S Word w/ Vanessa Lengies Review ( @KindaTV_ @littlelengies @soulpancake ) from @kleffnotes

After a massive hiatus, last month KindaTV streamed the SoulPancake series, S Word w/ Vanessa Lengies. KindaTV has done this sort of streaming for other sites before, Pot Luck was also a series that streamed on their site after an initial release on another platform. S Word fits very strongly within the mission of KindaTV and delves into topics of sexuality and gender. I thought I would share some of my thoughts about the series and the topics that it delves into. Leah on the Off Beat Book Review from @kleffnotes

After reading Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, I decided to delve into the Simonverse of books by Becky Albertalli and check out the sequel, Leah on the Off Beat. The Leah we meet in the preceding book is a bit standoffish and actually does not appear super frequently within Simon’s story. For those of you who have seen Love, Simon this version of Leah is a lot different than the one we see there. While both do get upset when they feel left out, the Leah in the book often disappears and hides when faced with conflict or when she is struggling to deal with something. I will admit that while reading Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda I didn’t particularly like her. As soon as I began reading Leah on the Off Beat I found myself understanding and connecting with Leah and her internal issues. Continue reading “Leah on the Off Beat Book Review from @kleffnotes”

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda Review from @kleffnotes

I realize that this book has been out for a very long time, heck so long in fact that the movie has been made and out on DVD for an extended period of time, but the holidays finally give me time to indulge in some pleasure reading and I thought why not share my thoughts. I loved Love, Simon and have seen it a few times at this point, though Oreos have never been involved in any of these watches so I totally need to plan a rewatch with them in mind. I know for a fact that I picked up Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda multiple times at the only bookstore in my town, but I never wound up buying it. Unless a book has a sticker on it noting it has a new clearance price or comes from a place with Half in the title it normally takes some intense persuading to get me to buy the book for myself. Conveniently my girlfriend had a copy of the book she was willing to loan me and I need you all to know that I was so invested I read it in an afternoon, yes it was that good. The Bi Line: ImBIbing in Something New from @kleffnotes

With 2019 starting today I wanted to try and do something new for The Nerdy Girl Express. I have been debating about doing an article series that would focus on LGBTQ+ topics, but hadn’t really had the time to sit down and focus on how to start it. Today seemed like the perfect day. Now in case you didn’t know my name is Katherine and I am an out bi woman. I typically just say bi instead of bisexual, just my personal preference, and I sometimes think up terrible puns involving the word bi. Ages ago I started thinking about the word byline, which is the part of an article that names a writer. Well as someone who is bi it seemed that it could be perfectly altered to use for my own needs. @ClexaCon London Small Panel YouTube Additions from @kleffnotes

After releasing some of their larger panels, ClexaCon posted a number of videos of their smaller panels from ClexaCon London. I took a bit of time to check out the new additions and wanted to share a bit about them with those who either couldn’t attend the convention or might have missed out on some of these panels. While the larger panels are always great, smaller panels help to focus more on specific issues and populations within the community that don’t always get discussed in the bigger rooms.
