Have you ever read a book that you couldn’t put down? You know that the world is happening around you, but you just want to stay focused on the words in front of you, making sure that you take in every single one before you close the book. That was how I felt the moment I picked up Buffering by Hannah Hart. I literally didn’t want to stop reading it, heck I had wanted to be reading it ever since she read excerpts from it on YouTube, so finally having the book in my hands was like finding water in the desert, which is literally something Hart can do.
Buffering is an absolutely beautiful book. Not only is it well written, but it balances elements of humor with very deep and emotional topics, which keeps you so connected to the text that you won’t want to stop for fear that the flow of the words will be broken. Hart reveals so much about her life, but what makes this book so engaging is that she creates a dialogue. You feel as though you are sitting with her and listening to her tell you all about herself in a way that you would with a very dear friend. Within these pages you learn so much about her upbringing, her relationship to her family, coming to terms with her sexuality, her growth as a creator, and recent events she’s gone through in connection to one of her parents. I don’t want to tell all of Hart’s story here because reading Buffering is an experience that you need to have. What she shares will not only help show you how strong and passionate she has been throughout her life, but you will also learn things that you never would have expected to learn. I’m not just talking about the whole neosporin in the nose trick. After I finished reading Buffering I had the strong urge to hug the woman whose story I had just read, which is a very rare thing for me. What will surprise you even more is that I actually did get to hug her.
Hannah Hart is currently on a book tour for Buffering, you can find all the details on the official Dey Street page. My sister and I found out that she would be visiting Columbus, Ohio, which is in the same state that we live in, and we immediately planned to go. My younger sister Mary is the person who introduced me to Hannah and through her videos we have bonded while she’s at college. We have had some wonderful moments connected to watching Hart’s videos and being able to see her in person was a dream. Even if you don’t know much about Hart you should attend one of the remaining tour locations and meet this kind and wonderful human being. Buffering is a book that I think everyone should read, it is just so full of heart, and well Hart, that learning from her through her own experiences will honestly enrich your life. I’ve included the photo taken of me with Hannah at the OSU Event because it was one of the most amazing moments of my life.
