Want to become an honorary Men of Letters? With Supernatural: The Men of Letters Bestiary: Winchester Family Edition, you’ll have all the information on monsters and the supernatural to get you on your way.
Supernatural: The Men of Letters Bestiary: Winchester Family Edition was released on September 12, 2017. However, I only recently received the book as a gift. After reading it, I wanted to write a review.
If you are a fan of The CW’s Supernatural, you will find this book immensely enjoyable and informative. In Season 9 of Supernatural, Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) learned they were descendants of a secret society known as The Men of Letters.
Men of Letters are “preceptors, observers, beholders, chroniclers” of mysteries not easily explainable or known to men. They had knowledge of mysteries of the supernatural and many arcane arts like alchemy. They considered hunters to be a lower class to them. Thus, their order only shares its secrets to the most elite hunters they deem to be worthy. (Supernatural Fandom.Com).
The Winchester brothers were trained to be Hunters by their dad John Winchester. But with this new information, Sam and Dean discovered learning about the supernatural was their destiny. And after finding the abandoned Men of Letters bunker in Lebanon, Kansas, they had a treasure trove of reference materials.
Supernatural: The Men of Letters Bestiary: Winchester Family Edition is the perfect companion piece to the history and mythology of the Men of Letters. I like how the chapters were put together. The book is a guide to monsters, Hell and Heaven (including a chapter on Castiel). Additionally, Sam and Dean add their own commentary which makes the reader feel as though they’re actually experience insight from the Winchester boys. I’d recommend this book to fans of The CW’s Supernatural.
