The Blue Room or La Chambre Bleue is a French film from 2014 that is part of a Mubi’s recent creator highlight of the month. Released this week for view, The Blue Room by Mathieu Amalric, opens with a passionate couple in a blue room, but in a matter of minutes the tone of the film shifts. The man in the room is being questioned by the police about the woman he was with and it appears that their affair was not the secret he believed it to be. The Bi Line: Chasing Amy Retro Watch from @kleffnotes

Somehow over the course of my life I had never actually watched Chasing Amy. This becomes a bit more surprising once I point out that I have watched a number of Kevin Smith movies and I even used to watch the show he had on AMC. For date nights, since we are long distance, Krista and I sometimes pick out shows or movies to watch simultaneously and when she learned I’d never seen Chasing Amy she thought we definitely needed to add it to the list. Set in Ipswich, Oregon in 1984, Summer of ’84 is full of eerie feelings and worried thoughts. Davey Armstrong is a 15 year old who thinks that a killer could be lurking anywhere in his suburban neighborhood. His conspiracy theories begin to come to head when he starts to suspect his own neighbor is a serial killer. Reminiscent of 1980’s classics like The Goonies, but with a Rear Window style edge, Summer of ’84 is a new movie that perfectly hits that nostalgic urge. Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection is Alexander C. Kane’s debut novel and came out of an idea he had during an end of year sales meeting. Andrea has been unemployed and while she has been interviewing one of the companies she contacted has a very hands on approach to interviews. As she lounges in her living room not one, but two heroes appear in her apartment and whisk her away to a mysterious place that deploys superheroes. Much like every new job, Andrea has to go through some growing pains, though what she has to get used to is anything from ordinary. Curtis Sittenfeld is a best selling author known for her story collection, You Think It, I’ll Say It, and her novels Prep, The Man of My Dreams, American Wife, and Sisterland. She has also published non-fiction works in a variety of publications. Her original story Atomic Marriage looks at the difficulties of marriage through the viewpoint of Heather Thiesen, who is charged with getting the writer of Atomic Marriage to agree to a movie deal, which he feels may contradict with the message of his book.
