Geek-Girl Volume #2 Issue 3 Comic Book Review ( @daSamJohnson ) from @kleffnotes

Geek-Girl Volume 2 focuses on a new incarnation of Geek-Girl. With Ruby no longer eager to play the hero, her friend Summer has stepped up to become the hero of our story. The only issue is that going into issue 3, Summer doesn’t have the super powered glasses that give Geek-Girl her powers. Keezy Young’s Taproot is a sweet and touching romance between two young men, with a bit of a supernatural spin. Hamal is a young gardener who just so happens to be able to see ghosts. One of these ghosts is a young man around his age named Blue and while it goes unspoken between them there is a deep connection that has been growing since the day they met. More recently Blue has been periodically disappearing and finding himself in a spooky place outside of the living world and this place reveals secrets that neither Blue nor Hamal ever anticipated. Divination Comic Review ( @Umicorms ) from @kleffnotes

Divination by Jen Hickman is a mature one shot that happened to catch my eye at FlameCon. Now as a pro-table setter Hickman had covered the mature image on the cover with some well placed stickers, which my mind totally thought were pasties. Once I stared a little longer I realized the unicorn and rainbow blocking the nipples of the character on the cover were totally not drawn on. For you gentle readers I have black barred the front cover, solely in the event that some young’uns come across the website and I do not want to have to deal with angry letters from parents. I am a huge fan of H.P. Lovecraft and I was delighted to find someone at FlameCon who also enjoyed a bit of Cthulhu in her daily life. Now admittedly Lovecraft is not really the greatest guy in the world. He might like monsters, but he definitely did not like really anyone who didn’t look or act like him, which is crappy, but what Megan James has done with her Innsmouth series is exceptional and takes the problematic work of Lovecraft and retools it for the modern era. Metaphase #2 is the double sized finale of this all ages series that focuses on Ollie, a young boy who has always wanted to be a superhero. Raised in a family with a superhero dad Ollie’s genetics hold the key to possibly becoming the person he has always wanted to be. The great thing about this series is that not only is it perfect for any age reader, but Ollie is also a young boy with Down Syndrome, which is so rare within pop culture. Wolverton Issue #2 Kickstarter Campaign from @kleffnotes

The Wolverton comic series initially began as the idea for a movie, but was transitioned into comics. The first issue appeared on the Comic Journal’s best of 2017 list and now the team is working to bring you a second issue through a Kickstarter. The title character Jack Wolverton is entrusted with protecting dangerous and magical artifacts that his family has collected over the years, but while many people would love such a fantastic job, Jack hates magic. Star’s End is being re-released by the publisher Antarctic Press in October of this year, but is currently in previews for pre-orders. The first issue of this series introduces animals as the dominant species within the Sirius System. In this world an ancient alien race, which the Sumerians argued had come to Earth, chose animals instead of humans and in doing so created a brand new universe. If you are a fan of science fiction and alternate realities you should make sure to pre-order your copy by August 30th.
