Touch Me Not Movie Review from @kleffnotes

In November, Touch Me Not kicked off the Romanian Film Initiative, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the Jacob Burns Film Center event, Making Waves: New Romanian Cinema. This is the debut film from Romanian director, Adina Pintilie. Touch Me Not is a jarringly beautiful film that examines the human body and the idea of intimacy, while also showcasing the connection between the subjects as well as Pintilie herself. Fangirl Freakouts: Lez Bomb from @kleffnotes

I am a bit late to the party with Lez Bomb, but this holiday film took a bit of planning for me to watch. There are so few queer movies that also fit within a holiday theme and Lez Bomb is a Thanksgiving focused story that shows us one woman’s attempt to come out to family that just doesn’t seem to be listening. I share my thoughts on this movie in this week’s Fangirl Freakouts. Continue reading “Fangirl Freakouts: Lez Bomb from @kleffnotes”

Denial Movie Review from @kleffnotes

Everyone at some point in their life has probably been in denial about something. Whether it be about an event in your life, something happening in the world around you, or perhaps even something in your own personality, denial has happened at some point. The documentary, Denial, examines a son, his father, climate change, and how denial has impacted all of these things. When Denial begins it appears to be a film focused on climate change and how the Hallquist family, especially the father and son, have been impacted The Grid and ideas connected to climate change, but then it shifts into a discussion of the father and the reveal of a deep personal truth that leads to unexpected feelings of denial. Werewolf Movie Review from @kleffnotes

Werewolf is not a horror movie, though the title might initially lead you to believe that, but rather a film about the horrors of addiction. The plot follows Blaise and Nessa, who are methadone users who have become outcasts in their small town. Their addiction pulls the two of them together and while Nessa wants to try and get away from this life their addictive personalities keep them trapped in a vicious cycle. Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow Short Film Review from @kleffnotes

The short film Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, written and directed by Emerson Gullifer, uses the character of Lizzie as a way to examine the world of theater and how difficult it is for women to advance in the way that men can. The film focuses on a production of Macbeth, in which Lizzie has been cast as Lady Macduff. As rehearsals begin the director insists upon creating a viscerally charged version of the play, which begins to push Lizzie to her breaking point. Each of the people she showcases have lives outside of the classroom that might surprise those who come into watching My Erotic Body with preconceived notions about those who derive satisfaction from these classes.
