General Hospital airs classic episode from December 31, 1997.

General Hospital is preempted today
Jordan (Briana Henry) questioned Jason (Steve Burton) about finding Peyton Mills’ body. Ryan (Jon Lindstrom) sealed Kiki’s (Hayley Erin) box of things with packing tape and told Ava (Maura West) he had to leave because the police commissioner wanted to see him. He urged her not to open the door without checking who it was first. At Charlie’s Pub, Maxie (Kirsten Storms) noticed that Nina (Michelle Stafford) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) were back together. Liesl (Kathleen Gati) arrived happy Maxie had allowed her to spend New Year’s with her grandson.  When Nina and Maxie left to change James’ diaper, Liesl approached Valentin and  thanked him for convincing Peter (Wes Ramsey) to change his testimony. Lulu (Emme Rylan) came to see Ava and told her there had been another murder. Ava was angry to think that Kiki’s death could be because of a serial killer wanting attention. Then Ms. Falconieri questioned Ms. Jerome about whether she’d seen anything different about Kevin.  Curtis (Donnell Turner) told “Kevin” about Peyton’s murder. Ashford was confused why the killer would send the text for him (Curtis) to meet him after killing Mills. Ryan explained killer probably wanted Curtis to contaminate evidence. The connection with all the murders werw Mr. and Mrs. Ashford as the killer placed the bodies in places he was sure the police commissioner and her new husband would find. He further stated that the killer used Halloween, Thanksgiving and New Year’s to display his handiwork as he is antisocial and has a problem with traditions. Julian (William deVry) told Kim (Tamara Braun) how he saw she and Drew (Billy Miller) kissing. Hank met with Drew at General Hospital. Julian broke up with her saying he realized he was a distraction as she needed to concentrate on her son and his father.  After commenting on Cain’s new face, Hank said he owed Drew because Cain once saved his life. When Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth) told Sam and Jason about moving out to live at the group home run by Shiloh, McCall and Morgan decided to check out the house. Liesl warned Valentin she had letters for safe keeping outlining his treachery. Sam and Jason arrived at the house and found Hank and Shiloh were the same person.
The episode begins a year ago. We saw that Lucy (Lynn Herring) was having financial troubles. She got a brainstorm and published a book Travel Guide to Port Charles. Present Day, Ms. Coe found Maxie (Kirsten Storms) at Charlie’s and asked Ms. Jones to feature a segment on Travel Guide to Port Charles in Crimson. Maxie was unsure where she could fit it in. Scott (Kin Shriner) told Monica (Leslie Charleson) he had some bad news. He revealed Gail (Susan Brown) had passed away. Jason (Steve Burton) called Shiloh a liar as he had introduced himself as Hank, a man who knew Drew (Billy Miller). Looking at Sam (Kelly Monaco), Shiloh explained that when you start a new life you often change your name. He tells a still suspicious Sam and Jason how Drew saving his life encouraged him to want to give something back. Kristina said Shiloh is responsible for a lot of community outreach programs and people who live at the house pay what they can. Sam was surprised to learn that Oscar (Garren Stitt) lived at the house as he is a minor. Kristina called her sister a bitch when Sam continued to grill Shiloh with questions, but Shiloh assured Sam’s questions were understandable. He continued to answer them by telling Sam and Jason how he pays for everyone to be able to live at the house with his own money, which he earns as a life coach. Kim (Tamara Braun) told Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) that Julian (William deVry) broke up with her (Kim). Julian also told Alexis (Nancy Grahan) about the breakup.  Mike (Max Gail) and Sonny (Maurice Benard) worked out at the gym. Mike met Chad. Sonny offered Chad a job at the gym. Stella (Vernee Watson) was surprised when Marcus said he was taking Yvonne (Janet Huber) out of Turning Woods and bringing her home. At Charlie’s Pub, Scott and Monica remembered Gail (via flashbacks) and when Lucy arrived, he gave her the sad news. Drew and Curtis (Donnell Turner) worked out on the punching ball. Drew told Curtis about Hank and asked his PI friend to investigate the man. After Sam and Jason left the house, Shiloh said her negative reaction to her sister’s questions came from within Kristina and he would help her work through her feelings. At Sam’s, she and Jason commented how Shiloh was too good to be true and probably wasn’t. Stella called Mike and Sonny and when they met with her, she told them Marcus decided to take Yvonne out of Turning Woods and back home. This upset Mike; he promised to stay away from Yvonne if Marcus allowed her to stay. Sonny told his father he would talk with Yvonne’s husband. Chad told Maxie that Sonny offered him a job. She warned him to decline a promotion to work at the coffee warehouse. Alexis was handling Gail’s estate and told Lucy, Monica and Scott that Gail had requests that involved a lot of the people in Port Charles.
Sonny (Maurice Benard) came to Turning Woods to try to convince Marcus to allow Yvonne to remain at the facility.  Marcus reminded Sonny how things are different for him (Sonny) because he can take his father home when Yvonne has to stay there all the time and doesn’t get to take her home. Plus in their wedding vows there wasn’t anything about allowing another man to give his wife gifts. Mike (Max Gail) and Stella (Vernee Watson) talk about Marcus and Yvonne. Maxie (Kirsten Storms), Nina (Michelle Stafford), Lulu (Emme Rylan), Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) attend Chase’s (Josh Swickward) self defense class due to the serial killer being on the loose in Port Charles.  However, Nina and Elizabeth trade snipes at each other because of the Aiden/Scarlett bullying situation. Elizabeth didn’t blame Scarlett for her behavior, hinting that bad parenting (and she wasn’t blaming Lulu) may have been responsible for Scarlett bullying Aiden. This makes Maxie very uncomfortable.  She reminded how could they (Nina and Elizabeth) expect the children to get along when they couldn’t. Willow didn’t like the mothers’ arguing. She was glad when Chase called her to demonstrate a self defense technique as it allowed her to get away from Nina and Elizabeth’s and their bickering. Chase demonstrated some self defense moves, reminding the ladies that being afraid helps them to be alert but it doesn’t have to take away their power. He used Willow and Maxie to demonstrate to the class. Mike returned to Turning Woods and learned that Marcus changed his mind about bringing Yvonne home. Marcus told Mike that his son Sonny gave a compelling argument. Yvonne opened the Christmas gift from Mike and said how much she loved it. A town meeting was held at Charlie’s Pub for mayoral candidates current mayor Ned (Wally Kurth) and Laura (Genie Francis). As the mayor, Ned was asked his views on diversity in his office and other questions. Ryan stood up and announced that he wanted to make his intentions known. He said that although he and his wife were in the middle of a divorce he had the upmost respect for her and her ability to be an effective mayor. Ryan said he would throw his support to Laura and vote for her and hoped others did the same. Laura thanked “Kevin” for his gracious words and vowed that she would be an advocate for mental health care improvements and had already visited Ferncliff and would make additional visits. Ryan wasn’t pleased to hear this. Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Jordan (Briana Henry) reviewed the evidence on the murders of Mary Pat (Patricia Bethune), Kiki (Hayley Erin) and Peyton Mills. Jordan commented how the killer was keeping the driver’s licenses of his victims. She added about the Ryan Chamberlain Murder documentary Peyton was working on and reasoned that the killer is trying to be a better serial killer than Chamberlain. Laura arrived at Sonny’s gym and was unaware that Ryan was standing behind her.
