Standout Performance: #GH ‘s Daytime Emmy Winner Chloe Lanier and Kathleen Gati via @stacyamiller85 @chloelanier @gatitweets @GeneralHospital #GH55 #GeneralHospital

Daytime Emmy Winner Chloe Lanier (Nelle) and Kathleen Gati (Liesl) offered General Hospital viewers a standout performance in the episode that aired Wednesday, December 26, 2018.

Due to the Christmas holiday, General Hospital offered viewers a shorten week of only three new episodes (December 24 aired a classic episode and the daytime drama was preempted on December 25).  Nonetheless, it came back with a punch on Wednesday, December 26 with an episode featuring a Pentonville Prison between Dr. Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) and Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier).

Liesl and Nelle are two Port Charles’ more colorful characters, each racking up a rap sheet of crimes ensuring they’d be incarcerated for the rest of their lives. However Liesl “You can’t keep me locked up for long” Obrecht managed to avoid prison yet again. Nelle wasn’t so lucky (But that’s probably because Lanier chose not to renew her contract).

Ms. Benson was surprised by a visit from Liesl as she remembered the doctor had been a fugitive. After sharing the news of her freedom, Liesl got right down to business asking Nelle where was that adorable little baby boy she’d (Liesl) helped to deliver. She didn’t buy Nelle’s lie that her baby died as Dr. Obrecht knew the child had been born healthy with no sign of trauma from its mother’s car accident. Liesl then accused Ms. Benson of presenting a dead baby to Michael Corinthos and threatened to reveal what she knew. Backed between a rock and even harder place, Nelle confessed: She’d given her son to Brad and Lucas to raise to keep him away from Carly and her family.  Nelle insisted her baby would be better off with parents who loved and really wanted him like Brad and Lucas. Dr. Obrecht assured she wouldn’t divulge Nelle’s secret…that is until she needed to do so.

Watching Gati and Lanier act out these scenes was like witnessing a well played tennis match. The serves were on point with each player hitting their dialogue ball well over the net. Pairing these two acting experts opposite each other was a stroke of genius on the part of the writers. Although I wish her well in what ever the future holds in her career, it’s a pity Chloe Lanier left General Hospital. There was never a dull moment with Nelle and Lanier’s talent far exceeds her years.

Let’s talk about Kathleen Gati. Why oh why hasn’t this woman been put on contract with General Hospital yet?  She’s one of the soap’s heavy hitters.  When Liesl airs viewers are guaranteed awesome scenes. She’s better than USPS, UPS and Fed Ex in that she ALWAYS delivers on schedule! Plus, Liesl plays a key in several major stories that the amount of material the General Hospital writers have for her is a virtual treasure trove. Gati turned what was originally as a short term role six years ago into a force to be reckoned with character. Viewers can never have too much of Liesl. Here’s hoping 2019 will see more of her (And a long term contract for Kathleen Gati perhaps?).

Kudos Chloe and Kathleen for allowing us to see the fabulous matching a wits between Nelle and Liesl and helping to close out 2018 on General Hospital in style.
