Anything can happen at the General Hospital Nurses Ball.
The Nurses Ball on General Hospital started in 1994 to benefit HIV and AIDS. Port Charles darling Dr. Robin Scorpio-Drake (Kimberly McCullough) contracted the disease as a teen and her boyfriend Stone Cates (Michael Sutton) succumbed from it at the age of 19.
Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) revived the Nurses Ball in 2013. It became a tradition that Dr. Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) would hijack the opening number, replacing the GH nurses with her own entertaining performance. No matter how hard Lucy tried, she couldn’t stop Liesl.
When the nurses took to the stage on the Monday, May 20, 2019 episode of General Hospital for the start of the Nurses Ball, I expected to see an interruption of their number by Liesl. I was both glad and disappointed when that didn’t happen. I enjoyed their rendition of “Best of My Love” but feared there would be no Liesl this year. Thank goodness that wasn’t the case. Not only did we get Liesl but Franco thrown in for good measure. The choice of “Guilty” by Barbara Streisand was appropriate as both these characters have been guilty of one crime or the other in the past. Plus, Franco and Liesl share a special friendship which made their singing duet debut extra special.

Kathleen Gati took to Twitter on May 21, 2019 to answer fan questions and respond to comments about the Liesl/Franco number. It was obvious from her replies how much she enjoys working on General Hospital, her character and fans. I’m glad she continues to be a part of the very talented General Hospital cast and thank Kathleen for playing Liesl.
